Newsflash: Congressional Democrats don’t care what you think!

In fact, they don’t even care what members of their own party think. From a report on USNews.com

Democratic Leaders Plan Secret Health Reform Deliberations

Despite their claims to the contrary, the way that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have handled the healthcare bill has been anything but transparent. And, if the left-wing blogosphere is to be believed, the two congressional leaders intend to keep the deliberations secret as they try to merge the House and Senate versions of the legislation into something that will pass both chambers.

Among other things, this strategy

allows Pelosi to avoid having to cut deals with problematic House Democrats like Michigan’s Bart Stupak, who has promised to do what he can to scuttle the final bill if it provides for federal funding of abortions.

Fantastic. “Something” will pass both chambers. No one has any idea what it will be, or what it will do, or how Congress will even pretend to claim the constitutional authority to enact it, but rest assured “something” will be passed.

Alexander Hamilton would be proud.

In the meantime, I’m proud of efforts taking place across the country to reject this despotism before it even has a chance to slither out of Congress. Especially in my home state of Virginia, where Delegate Bob Marshall is looking more and more like a hero of the Tenth Amendment for his Health Care Freedom Act.

This fight has been brewing for a long time, and could be long and ugly, because it’s not just about health care, but about who is sovereign in our nation: Congress or the People.

And no matter how often card-carrying members of the political class try to claim otherwise, remember that they are not the same thing.

The 10th Amendment
