LONDON – The Gulf of Mexico oil spill shows that the United States should follow the example of South American socialists in nationalizing its energy industry, filmmaker Oliver Stone said Tuesday. The whole idea that if something is in the hands of the government is synonomous with the people is Hegallian. It assumes that the people are the state and anything outside the state is not 'the people'. I personally assume that if it belongs to one person and is allowed to be traded to another person freely among people who compose society then it is 'the peoples' but if you put it in the hands of the state the people will never be able to touch it again.
