An interesting read from the Fabius Maximus Blog:

Our decades of experience with both parties makes this question easy to answer. Neither. They are partners, chopping at the tree of liberty from opposite sides. A harsh reality, which we avoid by seeing it only in our political opponents. The next post in this series identifies The guilty ones responsible for the loss of our liberties.

I don't agree that republicans like to keep wealth in the top 1%. I believe that you are always going to have both sides of the spectrum as in the top 1% and the bottom 1%. Someone will always be in one of those catagories but I think what makes it worse is the regulating power that government has. Regulations make it hard for businesses to operate and only existing big businesses can jump through them since they have experience and clout in the political system. Just look at what happens when GM is about to go bankrupt. The government stops everything to save them. This establishes a perminent upper class that is always protected by government in the same way monarchies protecting their lords and nobles from competitors.

Free unregulated enterprise actually destroys this because everyone has to get by on their abilities and not on their relationship to those in power.
