America 2000 was the name for the great leap forward in education under the first President Bush. Over time it has evolved into Goals 2000 by Clinton, No Child Left Behind under the second Bush and now we have Race to the Top under Obama. Not one president or seated congress in session has dared to dismantle the general government’s Department of Education and the hundreds of billions flushed down its endless slop chute.
Reestablishing our original federalism will take many different steps over time. One important step will be the return of education to the states without any general government interference. That inteference usually comes in the form of money which in turn requires the relinqueshing of sovereignty.
Each of these general government education scams has had the approval of many of the nations’ governors. It is high time the governors of our states realize that the general government is not their friend. It is an out of control leviathan that will consume everyone and everything in its path. The only time the general government can be friendly is when it is limited to its enumerated powers and is the true servant of the states as intended and not their master.
It was encouraging to hear Florida’s Governor elect Rick Scott warn of the general government’s temporary funding (read that as bailout) that requires permanent funding by the states.
In the meantime, we urge you to do all you can to educate your elected state and local officials about the Founders federalism. They will not learn and respond unless we teach them to do so.
