The idea is not just going to go away.

While opponents continue their attempts to paint state nullification of the federal health care act as a kook, fringe idea rooted in racism and repudiated by the Civil War, the concept continues to garner more and more mainstream media attention. The AP has done two stories on nullification in the last couple of weeks, and one of them even provided a pretty fair and balanced look at the concept.

Now Fox News has taken notice, much to the chagrin of the Daily Kos. First, watch the video:

DK contributing editor Jed Lewison drags out the same tired arguments against nullification, clearly hoping to keep the idea inside the “kook – fringe” frame. But that’s not really the point. We’ve been over these easily refuted talking points before, so we’ll leave Lewison to wallow in his own ignorance.

The real point lies in the fact that Fox News is catching on.

Indeed, the people of the United States are beginning to catch on, and I think  a lot of Americans on both sides of the political aisle like the idea of holding the federal government in check.

That’s what has establishment types on both side of the aisle so nervous, and continually ramping up the rhetoric against a concept clearly rooted in the founding principles of the U.S. They want to keep the nullification locked up in a dark closet.

But the door is open and the light is on. And like water flowing through a hole in a dike, I think we are on the verge of seeing a trickle of information about nullification become a flood.

That bodes well for those of you who care about freedom, liberty and controlling government power.
