I actually think this author is right because restricting who can vote might actually make our system better. I believe the original idea behind allowing land owners to vote was to ensure that their property interest would be protected by law from those who have no property. Imagine if only the top 1% of income tax payers could vote? Would they vote for a tax increase or to give away their own money? Probably not and anyone who thinks democracy doesn't have its flaws has got to show why is it every democratic system broke down into some kind of dicatorship?

this is possibly the worse article I've read on this site...myopic and ignorant and too kind.... The author sounds frustrated, and I DO understand, but his suggestions are way off base. I agree with the first responder here, limiting the size of government is the true solution.

Hello, While I understand your points about the fitness and interests of the electorate, a coercive solution would be far worse than the problem. Also, you are lumping individuals into stereotyped groups--reality is far more complex. Limiting government is the real answer. I think the best we can do is continue educating people toward this end--look around you; it is beginning to work. -LMN
