A Resolution in opposition to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) will be voted on at the Prowers County Democratic County Convention this Saturday March 31 from 2 – 4 p.m., at the Cow Palace Inn, Lamar, Colo.

Provisions 1021 and 1022 of the NDAA authorize the unlawful arrest and detention of anyone by the military for an indefinite period of time without charges. These provisions of the NDAA cut across all party lines and have brought together groups and individuals from across the country in support of resolutions, bills proclaiming state non-compliance and bills which threaten federal officials with arrest if they try to enforce these provisions in their counties, cities and states.

As stated in The Lamar Ledger, “The resolution is part of a statewide bi-partisan effort to obtain the signatures of all 64 County Commissioner Boards to denounce NDAA enforcement in Colo. and will be presented to the Colo. State Legislature, and U.S. Senators Udall and Bennett. The resolution was recently presented to the Prowers County Commissioners on March 13th, and is on the BOCC agenda, March 29th, for their signature.”

Several counties in Colorado have already passed resolutions which are a great start and will help in the state effort to pass an even more forceful bill out of the State Legislature. If you are a Powers County registered Democrat please attend and support this resolution, but regardless please read The Lamar Ledger article for a list of representatives and candidates attending this convention and contact them and politely ask them to support this bi-partisan resolution.
