I must agree with "onceproudameican". As a senior IT specialist in CA the government, the structure of security is poorly thought out with politics as the focus, not security. If CA is any indicator of how security is managed in other government agencies the chance of the "bad guys" taking over is very real. Currently, the chief of security works for the chief of information. So let's carry this forward in a mock conversation..Chief of security to Chief of Information, "There is, what I believe to be, a valid security threat to our network from a terrorist group." IT Chief response, "Ok, after we finish the data center consolidation I will spend some time on security. Schedule a meeting with me next month."
The Chief of IT can override every security recommendation. We call this the Fox guarding the Hen house from "inside"!

@JJCarafano The term 'common defense' does not apply to private businesses, and is meant to apply to foreign intruders/attackers, which if you haven't noticed Uncle Sam has been either incompetent, or negligent if judged by how many illegal immigrants we have within our borders. The entities that have the highest motivation to make airline travel safe are the airlines themselves. If you believe the government narrative as to what happened on 9/11, then you know that if the FBI had done it's job and investigated the suspicious behavior of many of the folks they tell us hijacked the planes, they would have been arrested months before that infamous day. Further, the fact that no one was fired or held accountable for the multiple security failures that occurred that day proves that the federal government DOESN'T take security seriously.

Regardless, violating the Fourth Amendment at airports across the country daily with the "Security Theater' and molesting Citizens will never be acceptable to any clear thinking American who actually understands the Constitution and the proper role of the Federal Government.

The constitution assigns the federal government responsibility to provide for the common defense. It also tasks government with both protecting and not infringing on constitutional liberties. Your assertion that government should do nothing in aviation security is not grounded in the consitution. Its a tactic. The federal government might be able to provide for the common defense and respect liberty by doing nothing, but then again it might not. To suggest your option is constitutionally superior is I dont think supported by the Constitution.
