There are a lot of really great, knowledgeable, eloquent folks who work with the Tenth Amendment Center nationwide. It blows my mind that I work with such a tremendous group of people, who encourage me despite the fact that I feel like the dumb kid in the class. Of course, I realize that that is part of the brilliance of the movement.

No matter who you are, or what you feel qualified to do, you have a place in this. The most important thing is that you understand the Constitution. Everybody has at least one person they share ideas with, which means that as you learn and share, you are also educating someone else. You might think that other person isn’t likely to become involved. It could be your mom, friend, coworker, or 14 year old cousin. Most people aren’t stupid. Willfully ignorant at times, but not stupid. At some point they are going to see what’s going on out there, and your words are going to come back to them. What you say, matters. You don’t even know how much or who you might be influencing, just by talking to your friends about the Constitution.

Each of us starts somewhere. I personally did not foresee myself doing this. I happened to stumble upon the Tenth Amendment Center one day, and after a few weeks of gleaning valuable resources and great information from them,  I knew that I had to become involved in helping to get the word out.

“Whensoever the general government assumes undelegated powers, its acts are unauthoritative, void, and of no force”  Thomas Jefferson

Today the Supreme Court upheld Obamacare, despite the fact that it is not within the limitations of the Constitution for the federal government to have enacted it.  Though for many of us this was not unexpected, that doesn’t make it any less frustrating. There is hope, however.

Thomas Jefferson told us that nullification is “the rightful remedy.” In my experience, there are still a lot of liberty loving folks that have not grabbed on to this concept. Nullification is essentially a refusal of the states, to live under unconstitutional laws enacted by the federal government. We have this power, reserved to us by the very intent of the Constitution, verified by the 10th amendment.

Perhaps rather than being a terrible day for liberty, this will end up being a great day. Perhaps this will be the alarm that wakes up the sleepers. Certainly some folks were just waiting for the SCOTUS to vote down Obamacare, trusting that they would do the right thing, trusting them that they know the Constitution and would act accordingly. Not so. As with other current leaders, they interpret the Constitution any way they see fit. So maybe now that blinded trust will fall off and individuals will realize that the restoration of the republic is up to us.

Now is the time to spread the ideas of nullification far and wide, and to stop being “yes” men for the federal government. It is time to put our foot down, and to demand that the federal government return to the constraints placed upon it by the constitution. No matter who you are, or where you are on the path, you have something to offer. Each individual is valuable in the fight against tyranny.

This is a defining moment. Our actions now determine the course of the future. We have to act. It’s time to use your voice.
