Host – “So you have got guns in your home?”

Ice-T – “Yeah, it’s legal in the United States, it’s part of our Constitution. You know, the right to bear arms is because that’s the last form of defense against tyranny. Not to hunt. It’s to protect yourself from the police.”

Host – “And do you see any link between that and this sort of instance (Aurora shooting)?”

Ice-T – “No. Not really. If somebody wants to kill people, they don’t need a gun to do it”

Ice-T gets it and perfectly summed up what those us us that support gun rights have been saying all along.

First, like the founders intended, an armed citizenry protects us from government tyranny. You only need to look at history to know what happens when the government disarms the people. It’s not pretty.

Secondly, guns are not the problem, it’s actually the lack of guns.

Take Chicago where it is nearly impossible for a law abiding citizen to get a gun, murder rates are up 38% this year over last. The criminals have no fear of an unarmed populace.

Knowing this, here’s a little nugget for the anti-gun crowd to chew on.

States with right-to-carry laws have lower violent crime rates. On average, right-to-carry states have 22 percent lower total violent crime rates, 30 percent lower murder rates, 46 percent lower robbery rates, and 12 percent lower aggravated assault rates, compared to the rest of the country. The seven states with the lowest violent crime rates are right-to-carry states. (Data: FBI.)

But the anti-gun zealots don’t want you to know these facts and will use every tragic incident that buffets their argument as a shining example, even when the facts don’t back them.
