Imagine a man owns about an acre of land in a prime area. He also has the plans for a beautiful 4,000 square foot house.
That’s not all.
He bought all of the supplies necessary: lumber, siding, roofing material and drywall. He’s got pipe, wiring, fixtures and paint. In fact, he’s got everything he needs to build his dream home right at his fingertips.
Not only that, but our aspiring builder has a shed full of tools – brand new hammers, wrenches of every diameter, paint brushes, drills and pliers. He has a band saw, a rotary saw and a table saw. And not just hand-tools. He’s got an excavator, a generator and a mobile elevator. He even owns one of those cool laser levels. You name the tool; our man has access to it.
But when he gets out to the work site, he finds himself all alone. And all of those tools and all of those supplies will do him precious little good without some good coworkers.
Sometimes I feel like that aspiring home builder here at the Tenth Amendment Center.
We have all kinds of great tools. We’ve got model legislation. We’ve got online petitions. We’ve got tons of educational resources. Our chapter leaders have some great plans and strategies in place to get Tenth Amendment related legislation introduced and passed at the state level.
But one thing we consistently lack.
Help.
Florida Tenth Amendment Center state chapter director Andrew Nappi laments the lack of boots on the ground.
“All those tools are wonderful and needed. The bigger challenge, in my humble opinion after a couple of years in this, is finding the right people,” he said. “Despite the fact that Jefferson called the 10th the foundation of the constitution, and we know that a committed state legislature can block implementation of unconstitutional acts, too many people want to continue to petition D.C., fight Sharia Law and rally around Joe Arpaio. All wasted efforts if you ask me. So distilled to the essence for me, it is people. Nothing happens without them.”
Here in my home state of Kentucky, we don’t even have a state coordinator. Unfortunately, that remains the case in many states. And nearly all of the state coordinators currently in place have expressed the need for help.
That’s where you come in. Will you consider volunteering a little time and help us rein in the DC’vers in Washington?
Even if it’s just an hour or two a week, we can use the help. And you don’t have to be a great writer or have mastery of all of the Tenth Amendment Center talking points. A lot of the work involves simple things such as sending emails, contacting legislators, creating mailing lists, and networking with other groups in your state. And of course, if you are a great writer or speaker, we can use those skills too! We also need folks willing to step up and take the reigns in states where we don’t currently have a TAC presence.
As the saying goes, the harvest is ripe, but the workers are few!
