Well, I’ve spent the last several weeks getting beat up by folks offended that I refuse to choose between the two big-government centralizers that the “mainstream” parties will offer me in November.

Most of those throwing punches  hang out on the red team. I wish I could harness the  energy spent by people trying to convince me I’ve GOT to vote for Mitt so we can get the horrible, Marxist, socialist out of the White House.

When I bother to respond, I usually point out the similarities between the evil Marxist, socialist and his Republican challenger. Sometimes I offer up a little wager: I’ll bet you $100 if Romney wins this fall, by November 2013, the federal government will be bigger, more intrusive and deeper in debt than it is on inauguration day.

No takers, yet.

At this point, I usually get a response like this from Daniel.

“It was baby steps, ignorance and pig headedness that got us here. And stomping around whining that Ron Paul didn’t get the nod to be the nominee is pointless and NOT helping. Romney is a baby step. The American people, business leaders and world leaders didn’t want Ron Paul due to the fact he doesn’t understand humanity’s base reactions. His economic policy was brilliant. His isolationism was laughable.”

Funny thing – I never mention Ron Paul.

People just assume that because I refuse to pick one of the two constitutional usurpers I must just have my drawers in a wad because Ron Paul didn’t get the nomination. Not the case at all. In fact, I never hung my hopes on a Ron Paul presidency.

Don’t get me wrong; I have a great deal of respect for Ron Paul. He built a career on principled fidelity to the Constitution, and his years in the House of Representatives along with his presidential runs introduced thousands of people to the philosophy of liberty.

But a Ron Paul presidency would not save the republic.

The problems in D.C. don’t stem from the fact that the “wrong person” resides at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The problem is the entire system is broken.

Over the last 100 years, the federal government grew and morphed into something never imagined by the framers and ratifiers of the Constitution. A limited general government with carefully prescribed, enumerated powers evolved into a sprawling institution with virtually unlimited control over the lives of Americans. The system described by James Madison with federal powers “few and defined,” and powers left to the states and the people “numerous and indefinite” disappeared long ago. Bureaucratic mechanisms march on like zombies regardless of who sits at the Oval Office desk.

A ship with a broken rudder will still sail in the wrong direction no matter which captain takes the helm. To make the ship sail straight and true, you’ve gotta fix the broken rudder.

At the Tenth Amendment Center, we’re not about switching out captains. We are about rudder repair. That means laboring at our state and local level, harnessing the power of the states to roll back federal unconstitutional acts through nullification and interposition. And there will be plenty of unconstitutional acts to roll back – no matter which team wins the White House.

I’ve talked to a lot of disillusioned Ron Paul supporters over the last few days. I understand their frustration and discouragement. But we have a lot of work ahead of us. And we plan to labor on no matter what happens in November. So we invite you all – come join us! We need help as we spread our message – follow the Constitution every issue, every time, no exceptions, no excuses.
