Elections are fast approaching, and there is a lot more at stake than the presidency.

In 10 states, nullification legislation targeting issues ranging from federal health care to marijuana legalization are on the ballot.  No matter what the issue is, the local media in a number of these states are falling in line with their network big brothers, spewing false propaganda to the voters.

In Florida, where Amendment 1 banning health insurance mandates is on the table, local news stations such as WTSP (10) St. Petersburg and CBS (4) in Miami are trying to convince voters that because of the Supreme Court ruling the vote is of no consequence.

“If your employer doesn’t provide it for you, there’s a penalty. And this is saying that you don’t have to pay that penalty if you don’t get insurance,” says USF political science professor, Seth McKee.

If passed, the amendment would prevent penalties for not purchasing health care coverage. McKee says the problem is that it doesn’t matter if you vote YES or NO, because in June, the US Supreme Court came down with a decision that upheld the law and ruled that you do have to pay that penalty.

In Alabama WAFF 48 in Huntsville, among other local stations, are barking the same rhetoric about Alabama’s Amendment 6, a proposal to nullify health care mandates.

“It is unenforceable,” said UAH Political Science Professor Dr. Andree Reeves. “It would be a violation in this little clause in the constitution called the supremacy clause that basically means that if there is a conflict between federal law and state law, that if it goes to court, the federal law will prevail every time.”

What Dr. Reeves must realize is that his own statement is a fine example of how government shouldn’t work.  How can we have proper checks and balances of power if “the federal law will prevail every time.”  The answer is, we can’t.  That is why we must look to history to find out the proper response to this media nonsense.

What we find, in fact, when challenging these so called “experts,” is that  the truth is exactly the opposite of what the media tells us.   Article 6, clause 2 of the Constitution, otherwise referred to as the “Supremacy Clause,” only applies if the federal government is acting in pursuit of its constitutionally authorized powers, as noted by the phrase “in pursuance thereof” in the actual text of the Supremacy Clause.

The same nonsense is being propagated about the General Welfare clause, I suggest the media look up what the term “general welfare” would have meant in the late 1700’s when the Constitution was written and adopted.  You might also look up the original 1700’s meaning of the term “regulate” and find out what the federal government’s PROPER role in the regulation of interstate commerce is.  The modern day spun meanings have distorted the proper role of government for way too long.

Since mandating health care is not in pursuance of the very limited powers the people gave the federal gov. in Article 1 section 8 of the U.S. Constitution, a Nullification of the act is the rightful remedy, according to Thomas Jefferson.  The principles of ’98 (or the Kentucky and Virginia resolutions of 1798) clearly tell us that “whensoever the federal government acts without the authority to do so, the States are DUTY BOUND to RESIST.”  Also, the Declaration of Independence says “…whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it,” again telling us that the people created the federal government, and when the government gets out of control, it is the “Right of the People” to alter or abolish it. The Declaration of Independence was adopted by congress; if you open the U.S. Code, you will find it there, IT IS THE LAW OF THE LAND!

Let us not forget the real history of our country and our government – no matter what media pundits and anointed experts might tell us.  I will draw on the words of the great Thomas Paine:

“When my country, into which I had just set my foot, was set on fire about my ears, it was time to stir. It was time for every man to stir.”

Come election day, let your local and national governments hear your voice, and don’t let Guy Smiley on the local news, sway you to do otherwise.
