Missouri House Bill 57 (HB57), the Liberty Preservation Act, prohibits any state agent or national guard from aiding any agency or the armed forces in pursuance of NDAA “indefinite detention”

HB57 has passed the Committee on Downsizing State Government. And it has to go to the Rules Committee before it will be sent to the House for a full vote.

Your help is needed right now to nullify the NDAA in the State of Missouri! Not much time is left in the legislative session, and this bill needs to move forward soon. The Rules Committee is a logistical committee setting the environment on how this bill will be voted on by the House. Delays can affect the outcome of this bill.

ACTION ITEMS

1. Contact your Rules Committee Chairman.  Politely request that she move HB57 forward.  Strongly, but respectfully, let her know that you feel that this bill is crucial, and federally sanctioned kidnapping has no place in the borders of Missouri.

2. Contact the Speaker of the House. The Speaker is a powerful figure in the Missouri House, and he can make or break most any bill.   Respectfully let him know that you want HB57 to move forward.    He can likely help HB57 move through the Rules committee quickly.

3.  Contact your State Representative.  Ask him or her to co-sponsor HB57, and when it comes up in the House to vote YES

4.  Encourage your local community to take action as well.  Present the Liberty Protection  Act to your city county, your town council, or your county commissioners.  Various local governments around the country are already passing similar resolutions and ordinances.  Local legislative action present a great way to strengthen a statewide campaign against indefinite detention.

NDAA: Open Season for the Police State

Scary Potential in Sections 1021 and 1022

Note: while some believe that the 2013 NDAA eliminated indefinite detention, it does not.  Dianne Feinstein introduced a very weak amendment to 2013 – and it failed anyway.  2012 indefinite detention provisions remain in tact – and the Obama administration is aggressively defending them in court.

Also, a case about indefinite detention is still being heard in federal court. Last year, Federal Judge Katherine Forrest struck down these indefinite detention powers as unconstitutional. She issued a temporary court order blocking the use of these powers.  That order was revoked by the appeals court and indefinite detention powers remain while the case is currently on appeal but not decided.

Additionally, when asked by Judge Forrest if the federal government was using indefinite detention in violation of her temporary order blocking it, Barack Obama’s attorneys refused to confirm, leaving the door open that the Feds were potentially using this power in secret, even in outright defiance of an order from the federal courts.
