When AB-351, the California Liberty Preservation Act, was introduced by Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, there was virtually zero support from his own Republican colleagues. Now, State Senator Bob Huff, the Republican Leader, has written a letter of support in reply to an activist’s letter.

Amy Alspaugh wrote to Sen. Huff a few days before AB-351 saw victory on the Assembly floor by a 71-1 vote.

The Honorable Bob Huff, 29th State Senate District

Dear Senator Huff:

I am writing to urge you to join the California State Assembly in supporting AB 351 to nullify the NDAA in California and support the Liberty Preservation Act.

Congress has failed its people at the federal level by passing NDAA of 2012, 2013 and again in the last few days, a bill that legalizes infringements on more than half of our bill of rights. AB 351 legalizes the right of the people of the State of California to reject sections of the NDAA which deny people their inherent right to due process. AB 351 is an opportunity for California to rectify this and help to restore Californian’s faith in our state legislature.

AB 351 is an opportunity for you to honor your oath to defend and protect the Constitution. Please honor your oath by voting YES on AB 351 and please urge your colleagues to do the same. Please legalize our ancient right to due process.

Thank you for your consideration.

Alspaugh received a direct answer from Sen. Huff.

No matter the state, no matter the issue, a bill challenging federal authority has never enjoyed guaranteed victory after moving from the lower house of the legislature, even when that victory is near unanimous. Without Alspaugh’s individual action, who knows how or when this news would have broke.

The early and potential success of AB-351 thus far is due to the diligence of individuals and grassroots coalitions.
