Tenth Amendment Center national communications director Mike Maharrey went on the ClarkCast radio show last weekend to talk about the n-word – nullification.

They focused their discussion on Maharrey’s book Our Last Hope: Rediscovering the Lost Path to Liberty. In the book, Maharrey makes the moral, philosophical, and constitutional case for nullification.

Maharrey and Clark kick off the segment talking about the proper understanding of the constitutional system our founders intended. They also discuss the historical context of nullification, specifically focusing on Thomas Jefferson and James Madison’s response to the Alien and Sedition Acts, and northern nullification of the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850, a piece of legislation Maharrey calls the “grossest” ever passed by Congress. Maharrey even jokes about the tendency to view nullification supporters as extremists.

“You know, the mainstream people, the non-extreme ones – they’re the ones that gave us the $16 trillion of debt, and guys sticking their hands down my pants at the airport, so I’m going to go with extremist. I think that’s better!”

The 10th Amendment
