It was the biggest race this year. Cuccinelli vs. McAulliffe for Governor of Viriginia. For months those two names were unavoidable on cable news, talk radio, and social media. But after the election it’s Ron Paul people are remembering.
Ron Paul’s endorsement of Cuccinelli was overshadowed by his encouraging of nullification.
“That’s what the whole issue is here. It’s the federal government, the size of the federal government, and whether or not we stand up to the federal government,” said Paul. He continued,
“Jefferson obviously was a clear leader on the principle of nullification. I’ve been working on the assumption that nullification is going to come. It’s going to be a de facto nullification. It’s ugly, but pretty soon things are going to get so bad that we’re just going to ignore the feds and run our own lives in our own states.”
Paul also pointed out that state-level action should be taken specifically against the Federal Reserve. He said, “You do know that the states have an obligation on the monetary issue, too. The states can only use gold and silver as legal tender, so the movement is in the states.”
Watch out for the anti-nullification zombies to come out of the wood work now. The Raw Storys, The Esquires, and all the rest.
What matters is the idea is spreading. Nullification is inevitable. Ron Paul has reminded his audiences that when an idea’s time has come, it cannot be stopped by any army or any government. That doesn’t mean decoupling is the only way. People are making the difference in their own cities and states, choosing the path of peaceful resistance.
After a year of NDAA indefinite detention nullification in California and 2nd Amendment protection in Kansas, it is certain that 2014 will be the biggest year yet for this constitutional principle. Ron Paul’s foreshadowing speech was a reminder for many, but a wake up call for many more.
