A pair of Missouri bills have been introduced which would have significant effect in blocking the implementation of Obamacare in Missouri.(learn more about it here)

SB546 – prefiled on 12-09-13

STATUS – Hearing and possible vote on 01-28 in the Senate Small Business, Insurance and Industry Committee. It will need to pass by majority vote.

HB1314 – Introduced on 01-09-14

STATUS – Referred to the House committee on Health Care Policy, where it will need to pass by majority vote.

YOUR ACTION IS NEEDED NOW to make sure the legislation has the support it needs to move forward.

1. Call the Senate Small Business, Insurance and Industry Committee Chair, Scott Rupp. Strongly, but respectfully urge him to move SB546 forward with a YES vote in his committee. A phone call has 10x the impact of an email.

2. Call the rest of the committee members. Again, be strong, but respectful. Urge each of them to take action to move the bill forward and vote YES on SB 546. If they do not commit to a YES vote, ask them why. If they’re undecided, let them know you’ll call back in a few days.

3. Call Back – any NO or UNDECIDED – in 3-4 days. Ask if they’ve had a chance to review the legislation and what their opposition might be. Comment below or contact us with any information you get.

4. Call the House committee on Health Care Policy committee chair and vice-chair. Be strong, but respectful. Urge them to move HB1314 forward in their committee. If they do not commit to a YES vote, ask them why.

5. Call all the other members of the Committee on Health Care Policy.  Again, be strong but respectful. Ask them each for a YES vote on HB1314. If they say they’re opposed, ask them why. If they’re undecided or will not commit to a YES vote, let them know you will be following up in a few days after they have a chance to consider it.

Following strong legal principles, it’s essential that Missouri no longer help the federal government carry out the Affordable Care Act. Passing SB546 and HB1314 will start that process.
