Tenth Amendment Center national communications director Mike Maharey talked with Mike and Shyne on the Rude Awakening show hosted by KnoxTalk Central last week.

Maharrey talked about the efforts to develop computers fast enough to break encryption at an NSA facility in Oak Ridge. He goes on to explain the basics of the Fourth Amendment Protection Act. The discussion then turned to why the NSA has become so intrusive, even into the lives of Americans. Maharrey provided his take and then explained how to deal with it:

I think it’s just a matter of the fact that power expands. The federal government, when it gets its hands on power, it tends to expand and it never goes away. And that’s why we’ve really focused on some state and local initiatives to try rein this in, because it’s not going to happen at the federal level. They’re not paying attention. They like this power and they don’t give it up once they have it
