From the “you’re glad you’re not in my line of work” files:
Sometimes when you send out a press release to 500-700 national reporters and alternative media contacts, you get no responses. Sometimes, you get a handful. And sometimes you get a lot of them.
And sometimes, you get a phone call on a Friday after sending a press release the Monday prior. And that person leaves a voice mail saying – “Hey, I know it’s short notice, but if you can do an interview, I’d like to do that today.”
But – since it’s short notice and there’s never enough time, and since it’s 4 days later, you let it go, and spend some much-needed time with friends and family.
Then, on Sunday over a long weekend, you get an email from that same person to tell you how horrible you are for blowing them off.
You get a sentence in ALL CAPS – to inform you that this person had SUPPORTED YOU FOR YEARS….
You are notified in BOLD, that they got “no response” and that they “will no longer be asking you for interviews AND!!!….”
“its a mistake on your part to send press releases to people that you do not want to have them!!!!!!
bad business! ”
They then close with “good luck.”
That’s a little taste of the idiocy that I deal with – and an example of how people lack understanding and compassion. Some of them, I believe, are just mean-spirited.
