To everybody fighting for liberty out there, I have some harsh news for you that you may not want to hear.

But, really, it’s for your own good.

If all you’re doing is trying to vote the bums out, you’re not doing enough.

Furthermore, if you only donate to organizations or candidates, you’re still not doing enough.

And this should go without saying – if you only read, learn and share articles – you’re still not doing enough.

Don’t get me wrong, these are all good things to do. Supporting candidates, voting and sharing articles can have an effect. But it will not even come close to saving our country. What will save our country is bold, brave action that goes beyond the usual political activism. The Founding Fathers weren’t content taking half measures to protect their liberty.

Why should you?

Taking the words of James Madison from Federalist #46, we can see the four steps that we were meant to take to preserve freedom in our country. They are as follows:

1) Protest: “The Disquietude of the People”
2) Noncompliance: “Refusal to Cooperate with Officers of the Union”
3) Gubernatorial Disapproval: “Frowns of the Executive”
4) Passing Legislation: “Legislative Devices”

After rallying people to your cause and convincing them not to go along with federal plans, state governors are expected to join the fight. The last step is what we specialize in at the Tenth Amendment Center, and what is most important. The ‘legislative devices’ as Madison referred to them can have a profound effect of stopping federal policy, and we have many pieces of model legislation designed to do just that.

Our plans have seen a great deal of success thus far. We have promoted disquietude and noncompliance on a national level with our campaigns, and we’ve received favorable national press coverage. We have contributed to the trend of states rights becoming more en vogue, with Governors such as Rick Perry of Texas and Sam Brownback of Kansas talking tough against federal power. Our greatest triumph is our work through the legislative devices to make James Madison’s blueprint into a modern-day reality.

We see it working all over. States are legalizing and decriminalizing marijuana all over America, and the feds are essentially powerless to stop them. In addition, many states are passing laws that diverge from the federal agenda to stop the warrantless gathering of electronic data and to set strict limits on drone use. This is throwing a wrench into the works, and subverting unlawful federal power. This is how resistance is done, not at the voting booth.

Join us and help us change the status quo, Madison-style.
