“Remarkable”

That’s what a mainstream media report in Wired called the Nov. 19th Utah hearing on our bill to turn off water to the NSA. “What’s noteworthy is no one on the panel said: ‘Hey, wait a minute, we can’t do this.'”

If just last year I had told people that any state would take these steps. I would have been laughed out of the room.

But it happened.

And while it’s going to be difficult to get it passed into law, we’re making far more headway than the USAFreedom Act did.  In fact, all of Congress for that matter.

In 1975, Frank Church warned us about the powers of the NSA – saying it could create a “total tyranny.”  That was before the internet.  Their power is much greater today.

40 years later, and we’re still waiting on Congress.

Some say that having to wait for the contract to expire between the NSA and Bluffdale, UT is too long. But that expires in just 6 years.  Meaning, even if congress does the impossible and beats Utah to the punch, it still would have taken Congress more than 4 decades.

We’ve got a lot more work to do whatever the case may be.  Then again, if a courageous legislator takes up the issue in Texas, it might not even take 6 more years.
