Phoenix, Ariz. (03-08-17) – After testifying to the Arizona Senate Finance Committee in support of what he called a “very important” sound money bill (HB2014), Ron Paul visited with supporters for a grassroots rally in the capitol grounds.

He discussed the importance of the bill itself, and of sound money in general.

“If you’re for less government, you want sound money. The people who want big government, they don’t want sound money. They want to deceive you and commit fraud. They want to print the money. They want a monopoly. They want to get you conditioned, as our schools have conditioned us, to the point where deficits don’t matter,” said Paul.

He also talked about the principles of liberty more broadly, discussing everything from the need to eliminate the income tax and the federal reserve, to changing foreign policy.

He said, “Let’s repeal a few things. Let’s repeal the income tax. Let’s repeal the progressive idea that we’re the world’s policeman and just quit all that war-mongering. And, of course, we would repeal the Federal Reserve Act and let the People decide what the money is.”

Paul also went into a more philosophical look at the libertarian non-aggression principle and the need to apply the same moral code to governments that are applied to people.

“Most people recognize that your neighbors are not supposed to steal from you, but what they haven’t recognized that if we as individuals are not allowed to cheat, steal and kill, what is it that we allow our government to do it? That’s what has to change. The principle of non-aggression is a principle that has to be applied to government,” he said.

Paul closed the speech on a positive note, saying that “the spirit of liberty is alive and well.”

He urged people to focus primarily on spreading the message of liberty as well, “There’s reason to be optimistic. And the big thing is, believe in liberty – and you’ll be on the right side of history.”
