Servants or Masters?

I am an American.  I am a disabled Vietnam veteran.  I mention that for a couple of reasons.  Being a veteran has deeply magnified my appreciation to live in the greatest country in the world.  As a veteran I did take an oath to serve and protect the Constitution of the greatest country in the world and as such, I find it unacceptable to expect anything less from any elected representative that also takes an oath to serve and protect the Constitution.

In the beginning almighty God created the heavens and the earth.  After a break he created the People.  The People eventually created the 13 original colonies that became States.  The States then created the Federal government and gave it specific enumerated powers to serve the People and protect their freedom.

You may ask, where does our freedom come from?  Well if you were Thomas Jefferson you would answer…”Our freedom comes from our humanity.  In that we are created in the image and likeness of God, who is perfectly free, so then are we to be perfectly free.”

Contempt for Constitutional Limitations on the Federal Government

The following is from Tom Woods fabulous book:
Nullification: How to Resist Federal Tyranny in the 21st Century.

“The controversy over health care reflects a much broader and deeper constitutional void in American life.  Some fifteen years ago, a Supreme Court Justice asked the United States Solicitor General ( the government’s lawyer for Supreme Court cases ) if he could name an activity or program that, in his view, would fall outside the bounds of what the Constitution authorized the federal government to do.  He could not.

This contempt for constitutional limitations on the federal government is bipartisan and long-standing.  Unsurprisingly, when the Constitution is thought of not as the strict limitation on government that its original supporters sold it as, but as something so completely broad as almost to defy limitation, government will continue to grow.  Some federal activities have begun to alarm even those who have historically cheered government growth as a progressive force.  Yet nothing has been able to stop it.  Even Ronald Reagan, for all his charisma and rhetorical prowess, was able only to slow the growth of certain categories of federal spending.  In 1994, the Republican Party won control of both house of Congress in a historic off-year election victory.  Government would at last be shrunk, politicians assured us.

Sure it would!

The Supreme Court as Ultimate Arbiters?

“To consider the Judges of the Superior Court as the ultimate Arbiters of Constitutional questions would be a dangerous doctrine which would place us under the despotism of an oligarchy. They have with others, the same passion for party, for power, and for the privileges of their corps – and their power is the more dangerous as they are in the office for life, and not responsible, as the other functionaries are to the Elective control. The Constitution has elected no single Tribunal. I know no safe depositary of the ultimate powers of society but the people themselves”
~ Thomas Jefferson

As We the People approach our responsibilities regarding Elective control, it would serve us well to spend some time to study, listen, research and ask some deeper, perhaps, constitutional questions of the candidates that are offering to represent us. If we ever hope to begin to reverse the madness of out of control, tax and spend, corrupt and dishonest state and federal governments, it is indeed our duty to do our best to insure that we are not repeating the same process and expecting different results.

If we can not Beat them, Infiltrate them!

In the early days of the USA, One of the worst insults the Founding Fathers could give someone was to refer to them as a PARTY MAN. To be a PARTY MAN meant you put the welfare of your political party above the interests of the country.

Let’s examine the possibility and or fact that the TEA Party movement is causing some disturbances and concern within the ranks of the career politicians/PARTY people.  One of the possible methods to address this issue would be to recognize them, welcome them and infiltrate their ranks.  Something like “If you can’t beat them, join them”

Patriots and Loyalists

In 1776 there were those who were known as Patriots “One who loves, supports, and defends one’s country.”  Our founders, the 56 dedicated souls that risked being hung for Treason who signed the Declaration of Independents were true Patriots.

In 1776 there were those that were called Loyalists “One who maintains loyalty to an established government, or political party, especially during war or revolutionary change.”

In 2010 we have a great crop of Loyalists.   We have the Democrat Loyalists and we have the Republican Loyalists.  Many of them are loyal to the throne of Washington, DC.  Others are loyal to the thrones in State Governments.  These Loyalists remain loyal to tax and spend, government welfare, corrupt and dishonest state and federal governments. They remain loyal career politicians who talk a great talk, but fail miserably when walking the walk…these are Loyalists!!
