Nationalize Hollywood?

Oliver Stone: US should nationalize film industry — Yahoo! News

LONDON – The propaganda power of the movies shows that the United States should follow the example of South American socialists in nationalizing its movie industry, filmmaker Oliver Stone said Tuesday.  The Academy Award-winning director of “Born on the Fourth of July” and “JFK” said that Hollywood wealth and power was too important to be left in private hands, telling journalists in central London that movies  “belong to the people.”

Oh, sorry, I got that wrong. Here is what Comrade Ollie actually said:

Oliver Stone: US should nationalize oil resources — Yahoo! News

LONDON – The Gulf of Mexico oil spill shows that the United States should follow the example of South American socialists in nationalizing its energy industry, filmmaker Oliver Stone said Tuesday.   The Academy Award-winning director of “Born on the Fourth of July” and “JFK” said that America’s country’s natural wealth was too important to be left in private hands, telling journalists in central London that oil and other natural resources “belong to the people.”

Of Socialism, Fascism, Liberalism, And Obama

A lot of talk went on early in Obama’s presidency, calling him alternately- fascist, communist/socialist, or liberal.  But what do these terms really mean?  It’s easy to simply name call, but in reality these terms have meaning beyond what people realize.  Some of them are correctly attributed, but the truth is more complicated to discern.

Fascism

Fascism is defined in answers.com as:

  1. often Fascism
    1. A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.
    2. A political philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system of government.
  2. Oppressive, dictatorial control.

[Italian fascismo, from fascio, group, from Late

The thing that sticks out as relating to Obama is the socioeconomic controls, i.e., AIG, GM, Chrysler, Freddie Mac, Fannie Mae, etc. Now to be fair, Obama was no different than Bush in this regard. When Bush signed TARP into law the nation took a large step toward Fascism. Obama seems to have amplified this economic policy in continuing bailout stimulis, and continuing the TARP program to control the financial sector.   The control exerted on the “private” economy by this act was/is breathtaking.  But by the government’s influence over large parts of our economy (you can add private health insurers to that list now) we have entered the realm of a Fascist economic model.  The health insurers will get 40 million new customers by Government fiat, and in exchange they must give up control of their companies and be relegated to the role of a Government pensioner- but in this way fascism is little different than socialism in that if you no longer control your property, is it really yours?  What good is it to own a car if you are not allowed to drive?  How about the other aspects of fascism- how does Obama measure up there?  Well, we do have a large degree of centralization under the President’s authority and that of his Czars, but there are no acts of violence yet aimed at the opposition- so AS of yet, he has not fulfilled the fascist mold, entirely.

What is America’s View of Socialism?

socialismA recent Gallup Poll suggests 36% of Americans have a “positive image of Socialism.” It is telling when the results are broken into groups. 53% of Democrats have a positive attitude compared to 17% of Republicans. Here is my analysis after reviewing the poll results.

The poll respondents were asked “Just off the top of your head, would you say you have a positive or negative image of each of the following?”; what we are actually seeing in the poll results is more about education rather than party affiliation. I say that because when the same respondents are asked about small business for example the results are basically the same between the groups. They hover in the 95% range positive. When asked about their image of the federal government we see 67% of Democrats with a positive image compared to 27% of Republicans.

I don’t believe if the respondents were asked; do you believe that the government should run all businesses in America? The response would be much different than the small business result. I don’t believe if you asked; do you believe everyone should get the same pay no matter what job they do or career they pick? The response would be overwhelmingly no. If you asked; do you believe that you would be better off if the government chose your home, school and career? Most people would say no.

The reality is that Republicans are more in tune with what socialism truly is and have not believed or been exposed to the same sources of information as the Democrats. Democrats have believed and been exposed to bad information, and have not been asked the right questions. Democrats have a belief that government is compassionate but again if they were asked; do you think public education in the city of Detroit has been successful? The answer would be no. The federal, state, and local governments are responsible for that but like many democrats they are not exposing themselves to the facts and results of government programs. It is not that democrats are not smart; they have not been asked the right questions.

Socialism is a destructive system that would ruin this nation. If asked the right questions or exposed to the correct information; the results would be nearly unanimous; the image of socialism would be bad, just like the system.

I WANT Health Care for All

obamacare-lineI do, I would love to see health care available to all who seek it, all who need help. I love the idea: Any ill person, anytime, cared for.

This first point, is one in which proponents of “free government health care” and I agree completely. The idea sounds so nice.

It’s when I move beyond this first, juvenile desire of mine and start to analyze how DC intends to achieve “health coverage for 96% of Americans” (sorry, residents of skid row) that I find myself opposing the new Federal strategy. Many who stand behind the congressional Big-Brother-esque health care plan do so because they don’t bother to educate themselves about HOW a humanitarian goal is approached, only that someone SAYS that they are attempting to work towards it. Numerous nationalized health care supporters don’t even realize that it is they, not the Feds, who will be paying for the care, whether they end up wanting it or not.

I myself don’t currently have health coverage, for a couple of reasons. For one, my personal view is that Western Medical science is not all it’s cracked up to be. In addition to this fact, the coverage that is available to me as an individual does not represent an equal value to what I would pay for it. In short, I too am greatly dissatisfied with the reality of health care here in the US, so I don’t participate.

The great change that Obama is gunning for? I would be forced to pay for the same inferior products that I currently decline and another unconstitutional bureaucracy, designed by those it claims to audit, would be born.

Stock prices for shares of most EXISTING health care corporations are rising as congress approaches passage of health care reform, what does that tell you? Those who WANT health care for all would be much better served by looking for solutions on a state level. Not only would state health care plans be constitutional, but they would be forced to innovate while effectively competing for business against other states.

The Senate’s Socialist Shafting

Peter Schiff:  “This is one of the worst pieces of legislation I’ve seen.  And, it shows that the Senators that are writing this legislation have absolutely no comprehension of insurance – what it is, how it works, they don’t know a thing of basic economics.  Yet they’re writing the rules that the rest of us are going to have to live by.”

The Veil of Compassion

My viewpoint from the stands of the partisan playing field has afforded me an interesting perspective over the past year.  12 months ago, those on the Right were demonized as inhuman Nazis, hellbent on the enslavement of mankind and all the world’s children.  These days?  It’s the Left that I keep hearing about.  Apparently, the Left are a bunch of inhuman Nazis, hellbent on the enslavement of mankind and all the world’s children.

What’s going on here?  It’s as if the teams have just switched sides, with the tactics and rhetoric used by one side now in the hands of the other.

Average Americans, Nazis?  Really?

If the 10th movement is to succeed, it must reach out to the Left.  I’ve written this before and I’m convinced that it is so.

So how does one reach out to a maniacal, freedom hating socialist pig anyway?

Start by realizing that what the Democratic leadership thinks and what the guy on the street thinks are totally different.  It is the notion of compassion, of caring for others (or the planet as a whole) that sells concepts like Obamacare, Cap N Trade and yes, even the Iraq war (we were supposed to be LIBERATING and FREEING those people, remember?).  Remove this veil of compassion and brotherly love and…VOILA!  All that remains is what we Tenthers see- a bunch or power-mad egomaniacs who probably enjoy their daydreams about Joe Slob and his family toiling while the political class continues to dine on $100 hamburgers in DC.

Carry this understanding of the misled minions of the Democrats with you.  When you feel the urge to spit on your Leftist coworker, you might instead try appealing to their sense of compassion.  One day, they will see what we Tenthers see- that restoring freedom and liberty is the most compassionate act there is.
