Recently on The Big Picture, guest host Sam Sacks and Nate Sweet discussed how several states have started pushing back with legislation banning support and construction for NSA facilities. Sweet pointed out that both sides of the political spectrum were coming together to support the 4th Amendment Preservation Act, When asked if he thought introducing such a bill at the state level was constitutional, Sweet replied, “Constitutionality is tossed out the window when you have mass surveillance of the entire population.”

He went on to urge progressives to rally around the issue.

“Most of the reform efforts have been people categorized as the political right, but progressives need to make efforts to reclaim this issue. Not only as a protection from the powers of the federal government, but also from federal government inclusion with private corporations.”
