It is always excellent news to see the tide turning as our views become legitimized and the press coverage of our activities becomes more favorable. That has what we have seen with the ObamaCare nullification movement blossoming while the law becomes a more obvious disaster.

A recent example of this improvement in news coverage comes from a Daily Caller article titled ‘South Carolina voting on bill to end Obamacare in state’ that covered House Bill 3101. In this article, there were none of the usual baseless accusations of racism and absurd historical misrepresentations that we have grown accustomed to seeing in reports on nullification and states rights. Instead, we saw even-handed coverage that presented our ideas in a fair manner.

The article even goes as far as to portray federal supremacist efforts to deny nullification as hopelessly futile saying, “State and local governments governed from both sides of the political spectrum are increasingly flexing their Tenth Amendment muscles against perceived federal overreach.” The article estimated that the bill will likely be passed quickly and go on to become a model for ObamaCare resistance across the country.

It is fantastic that our ideas are making such traction and becoming appealing to people on both sides of the political aisle. Time after time, the federal government has failed at curtailing their own power and properly regulating their own behavior. State and local resistance, as recommended by the Founding Fathers, is what is needed to finally cut the feds down to size on health care and other key issues.

Specifically, Obamacare can be defeated by state legislatures thanks to the anti-commandeering doctrine. The sponsor of H.B. 3101, State Sen. Tom Davis, described this doctrine saying, “What the Supreme Court said in Printz v. United States is that states are not merely political subdivisions of the federal government to carry out what the federal government does; they are sovereign entities. Congress can pass laws, but it cannot compel the states to utilize either their treasury or personnel to implement those federal laws.”

Hearing the TAC talking points come from the mouths of eloquent public servants bolsters our cause greatly. While our political opposition makes excuses, we are achieving results. The federal government has proven themselves time and again to be poor stewards of power, and they are hemorrhaging credibility rapidly. Their hold on the psyche of the American public is wearing thin, and the time is now for us to organize resistance against them from the bottom up where they are most vulnerable.

What You Can Do

Because ObamaCare is such a complicated, bureaucratic mess, that means a great deal of state compliance is required for it to be a success. South Carolina is creating the blueprint for how to fight back against this repellent measure. Rather than acquiescing or waiting for the feds to do something, they have taken matters into their own hands and refused to be commandeered into doing the bidding of a criminally incompetent Obama administration. Now, activists must take it upon themselves to ensure that the South Carolina effort succeeds and that other states follow suit.

If you live in South Carolina, contact your legislators and politely urge for them to support H.B. 3101 to prevent the implementation of ObamaCare. If you want to see if your state has introduced any legislation similar to H.B. 3101, check out our legislative tracker. If your state hasn’t introduced anything yet, our four step plan to defeat ObamaCare is located on that same page right below the legislative tracker feature. Find your legislators and respectfully demand that they follow in South Carolina’s footsteps to protect your health care freedom!
