Progressives have done a complete 180 on the Constitution over the last few week. And so have conservatives.

Typical progressive narrative, circa 2009-2016:

The Constitution is a “living document,” the expansion of executive authority is justified under numerous circumstances, the president is merely repeating the precedents of his predecessors, and the president has a pen and a phone to pass edicts when Congress refuses to act.

Typical progressive narrative, now:

The Constitution imposes rigid boundaries on the executive, executive authority is confined to overt parameters that can never be violated, the duplicitous acts of prior executive occupants don’t justify modern executive edicts, and the president cannot supplant the legislative process whatsoever.

I say welcome to the club, I just hope that you’re willing to stay here for awhile – as in, always.

And since this cuts both ways, many “conservatives” recently have done the exact opposite 180. The executive power they complained about for eight years is now A-OK.
