via Utah State Rep, Ken Ivory:
We are pleased to announce that HB148 Transfer of Public Lands Act by Rep. Ken Ivory and the supporting HJR3 Joint Resolution on Federal Transfer of Public Lands passed through the Natural Resources Committee hearing last week and should be heard on the House floor sometime tomorrow, Tuesday, February 28, 2012.
You can review the bill, the resolution, Utah Attorney General’s historical background of HB148, a summary of the bill, a brief history by Pres. Andrew Jackson of the federal government’s trust duty to dispose of the public lands, and a spreadsheet outlining our tremendous education funding gap as a result of the federal government’s failure to timely honor its promise to transfer title to our public lands at these links.
More than 40 members of the Utah House of Representatives have already signed on as co-sponsors of the HB 148 and HJR 3 initiative This initiative also enjoys the early support of these organizations: Utah Association of Counties, Utah State School Board, Utah School Boards Association, Utah School Superintendents Association, Utah PTA, Sportsmen for Fish & Wildlife, Utah Shared Access Alliance (USA-ALL), and the Sutherland Institute. Look for more supporting organizations as this continues to roll out.
