First in the Nation: Beaufort County, NC Passes Gun Law Nullification Resolution

While a number of states are currently considering legislation to nullify federal gun laws, rules, acts, orders and regulations, and various sheriffs around the country are issuing notice that they will not enforce any such federal laws, a new grassroots undercurrent could be building to support those efforts. Local governments nullifying unconstitutional federal acts.

Today, Beaufort County, North Carolina became the first in the country to do so. The board of commissioners passed a nullification resolution in support of the 2nd Amendment. The vote was unanimous. The resolution reads, in part:

The Beaufort County Board of Commissioners calls upon the Governor and General Assembly of the State of North Carolina to immediately pass an act to nullify the implementation within the State of North Carolina of any Federal law, executive order or regulations restricting the right to keep and bear arms

It continues, and makes clear that the County will play no supporting role to the federal government in attacks on the 2nd Amendment:

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, the County Manager be directed to see that no county paid staff participate in nor allow any county resources be used in the implementation of any Federal law, executive order or executive directive that infringe on the right to keep and bear arms

Enthusiasm from the community was high. Representatives from the North Carolina Tenth Amendment Center reported that the “room was packed” to the point that the crowd was “overflowing out into the hall.” Two local tv stations were on hand to report as well.

    The City of Creedmoor, Granville County adopted the resolution last night at it’s commissioners meeting, while the county would not at it’s meeting.

        One of our commissioners is a local Gun Smith/Dealer that is pissed that our good mayor joined the mayors protest on guns, so we got it on and passed.

    Way to go Beaufort County, North Carolina.  Next, the State Legislature and the Governor need to pass a similar State-Wide Resolution.  And be sure the Resolution has real teeth, such that state & county officers are empowered to repel illegal federal agents actions in this matter.  Then other states join in.  Obama has gone too far this time.

    With respect to those who have been affected by guns.  We need to emphasize to gun owners to be responsible for their guns.  They should be in safe (hopefully) locked places where only the licensed gun owner can gain access.  Think about what happened, a Mother took her grown son to a target range to try & bond with him.  An adult male who has babysat her son was instructed by the mom to not turn his back on her son.  Obviously she was scared of him.  So why in the world would you but a gun in this kids hands and teach him???  Also, a kid who had mental issues, why didn’t she have them in a locked gun safe??  We’ll never have those answers because her own instructions helped her son kill her and those innocent children & teachers at the school that day.  No law or regulation that is in effect today would change that situation.  She was irresponsible period and she paid with her life.  If you have guns make sure kids can’t have access to them.  I haven’t heard any of the news media talking about gun safety and gun responsibility and keeping them locked and out of reach.  Also something to think about and maybe you can correct me if I’m wrong….but wasn’t Fast & Furious a Govt hand out of Guns????  And those guns were used to kill people including a border patrol agent Mr. Terry???  Also those guns have been linked to shootings in Mexico of teens attending a birthday party???  So on one hand in one dept they’re handing out guns and yet in another dept they’re trying to stop ownership of guns that I think they were handing out????  I’d love to hear from others on this subject and maybe I can learn more………..Thanks for listening and if I have these facts mixed up please correct me…….Also why isn’t our News Media Covering the NEWS????  The Facts????  I don’t need to hear about the supposed girl friend of the ND player anymore………..ok!!!!  Let’s have some real news for a change………unbiased…….Brian Williams!!!!!

      @TerriC305 No, you are entirely correct, but the MSM and the political elites have a way of always “skirting” the obvious if it doesn’t fit their narrative. Funny, you’d think they’d be hounding Mr. Lanza and the “alleged” shooter’s brother, you know, the one they initially claimed to have been the “shooter”, but nary a peep nor a story from either. Odd, no? Beyond that, the chances of the MSM and the politicians laying blame at the feet of, the alleged first victim, Mrs. Lanza, are slim to none. It’s just easier to blame certain makes of firearms, which we now know were NOT found at the scene of this “alleged” shooting, than it would be to blame the shooter and/or anyone complicit in this “alleged” tragedy.
       
      The only question left unanswered is, what ever happened to the individual running through the woods, dressed from head to toe in camo, and arrested at the scene?

    @Barry Soetoro Marbury v. Madison was about EXPANDING the provisions of the Constitution, NOT restricting the rights laid out in it. History and the federal judiciary have constantly and continuously stated that the government has the right to RESTRICT provisions of the Constitution within permissible means (freedom of speech is an excellent example). An outright ban of guns would be unconstitutional, but mere restrictions may not. Context matters here.

      @CJ017  @Barry Soetoro How is “freedom of speech” an excellent example”? Freedom of speech CAN be restricted, but the First Amendment is absolute, as is the Second.
      The First does not grant freedom of speech, it says “Congress shall make no law ….; or abridging the freedom of speech,  Congress does NOT make the laws that says you can’t shout FIRE in a theater without a fire being present. Your local law-making organization does.
      But in the second, there is no mention of Congress not making a law. It simply says. that the right “shall not be infringed”

    Judging by the comments here, I dont suppose that anyone here has been informed by watching news reports that the Sandy Cook beast(any word to describe the most dispicable person imaginable will do) did not use an AR15 in the most cowardly and outrageous crime in memory. It is now confirmed that the rifle was left in the car and four handguns were found in the school as was reported by the witnesses. Was this fact hidden by most in the media? Why? Gun control liberals and our present government will go to great lengths to bolster their desire to ban any and all weapons. The ulterior motive as politicians is to distract the people from the ongoing finiancial robbery by our government of this nation that is leading to its destruction. The government does not want America to be focused on the out of control spending and the consequences this spending has for the present and future Americans. People need to remember that If the liberals do get their way only outlaws will have these weapons to wreak havoc on an unprotected population.

        @GeorgeMercado  @RJT  Again, no AR-15 was found anywhere on the premises save for those brought in by the LEO’s themselves. The “rifle” found in “his” vehicles trunk was a side charging handled weapon and I’ve yet to find ANY AR-15 or an AR variant with a side charging handle. At best it looked like a Ruger 10/22 or some similar styled weapon. Beyond that, the question still lingers as to whether the vehicle in question was even the shooters? I mean, how do the police wait to search a vehicle hours after the attack and then without wearing gloves to preserve the integrity of said crime scene? I’m no conspiracist, but something’s just not right with the “official” story.

    I believe that we have already had a conversation concerning State nullification of Federal Laws. I think it turned out rather poorly for North Carolina.
     
    Governor Faubus of Arkansas forgot about that in ’58 (I think) and ordered National Guard Troops to enforce State Segregation Laws.  President Eisenhower then gave members of the 101 Airborne an expense paid vacation in Little Rock.

      @JimVanCise Did you know that the only places nullification has ever worked, have been in places that explicitly uphold and expand human rights?  Virginia and Kentucky nullified the Alien and Section Acts.  Wisconsin nullified the horrifying Fugitive Slave Act and ensured the survival of the Underground Railroad.  The only time it EVER works, is in the defense and expansion of human and civil liberties.  So why would false and unconstitutional attempts at nullification, which nobody is trying to repeat, be you target instead of the sort we ARE trying to repeat.  Nullifying the Fugitive Slave Acts in Wisconsin, or nullifying the Alien and Sedition Acts in Virginia and Kentucky.
       
      You insist on framing the debate as though our intent is to walk in and adopt failed models like the Civil War.  Are you even aware when you repeat it that that is false?  Our goal is to save America and to expand civil and human rights, by restoring the Constitutional order.  You can help us or not, but if you don’t want to it’s OK.  We get it.  There aren’t many Americans left anymore who are big fans of human and civil liberty.  We are, and we are proud of it.

Right?, my personal choice for home protection would be landmines, vx, and anthrax; but unfortunately we temper our 2nd amendment; and they don’t allow me to have these things, because these things can be dangerous, got no problem with regulating things that are dangerous, and I only hope that others will Follow the Law, and if not the government has instruments, such as withholding road money to areas that don’t comply, I’m all for it. Is that because my guns are defective or, perhaps, that I am not defective? You need to look for the real cause of the problem. BTW, your personal choice for home protection seems pretty radical to me. I would think you would have a problem passing the background checks that I had to go through.

They are the one who really deserve it because they would / did lay their lives on the line so you can shoot off at the mouth about anything.  Not even the police deserve to have them if they are only civilian trained.         @dancoe  @DavidAllred Dancoe, I think that most reasonable people will acknowledge that the 2nd amendment predated the arms you mention, however, those arms cause indiscriminate mass destruction and most people are okay with regulations for those types of weapons (landmines/anthrax). Your argument on a document that predates the invention also applies the 1st amendment (free speech) and the medium that you are currently using to convey your opinion. Mass media broadcast networks were not invented then, so maybe we should start restricting how many viewers our networks can reach. I would venture to say that irresponsible reporting can inflict as much damage as a mentally ill person with a gun.

        @USN81NCARNG86  “Assault Weapons” are already heavily restricted and regulated by the BATFE, Reagan saw to that, and the ones that are available are so heavily vetted and expensive to own as to be prohibitive to most. Beyond that, if you DID have the $$$ to purchase an “assault weapon” the FBI and BATFE would vet you so thoroughly that they would have to proclaim you a messiah as the process to become POTUS , Pope or King would be less intrusive.

They were crimes and, as an inanimate object, they could not have been carried out by the gun/s without the intervention of a terribly disturbed person. Why don’t you put your passion and energy into solving the problem as opposed to lowering the body count?
