On May 27, I was interviewed for a discussion on the ramifications of Alabama SB377 by Rod Arquette on KRNS in Salt Lake City. You can listen to the interview here.
During the interview, I explained that this bill would serve two purposes. One, it would end an unnecessary conflict over the definition of marriage by leaving up to individuals to decide the matter. Second, it would prevent federal judges from unconstitutionally overturning state marriage laws, as the Constitution does not grant the federal government any power on the matter.
For centuries marriage was a private contract. Allowing government to license marriage gives politicians and bureaucrats control over the personal lives of private citizens.
It is high time for a divorce between the two institutions..
