On 6 February, lawmakers in the Maryland House of Delegates introduced HB 1011 which would prohibit the state of Maryland from aiding the federal government in infinitely detaining federal prisoners.

STATUS:ย Referred to the Committee on Health and Government Operations where it will need to pass by majority vote before it can be considered by the full House. A hearing on the bill occurred on 12 February and is awaiting a committee vote.

YOUR ACTION IS NEEDED NOW to make sure the legislation has the support it needs to move forward.

1. Call your the Chair of the Committee.ย Be strong, but respectful. Urge them to support HB 1011ย and move the bill forward in their committee. If they do not commit to a YES vote, ask them why.

2. Call all the other members of the Committee.ย ย Again, be strong but respectful. Ask them each for a YES vote on HB 1011. If they say theyโ€™re opposed, ask them why. If theyโ€™re undecided or will not commit to a YES vote, let them know you will be following up in a few days after they have a chance to consider it.
