Minnesota Republican Tim Pawlenty urged fellow governors on Thursday to more frequently assert state sovereignty over the federal government and suggested that the country may increasingly see states suing the federal government.
Asked by a caller about the option of asserting the Tenth Amendment as a tactic to reject a successful health care overhaul by President Barack Obama during a tele-town hall organized by the Republican Governors Association, Pawlenty said, “that’s a possibility.”
Speaking generally about the tenth amendment, Pawlenty said the country has not had “a proper federalism debate since Ronald Reagan raised the issue in the 1980s.”

It is time for all Americans to wake up to the tactics of the righ wingnuts like Bachmann, Pawlenty and others. These people are not interested in what is good for America. they are only interested in furthering their own ideology. There is a related post at http://iamsoannoyed.com/?page_id=588
Carly:
You DO realize that this website is ABOUT the 10th Amendment, I trust. So your criticism of Bachmann and Pawlenty for speaking favorably about the 10th Amendment probably isn’t going to influence anybody viewing this website. (Actually, your “criticism” utilizing a smear-label like “wingnut” isn’t really a thoughtful criticism at all–it’s just smear-mongering.)
You may perhaps have more success posting at the Lizard Lounge, DailyKos, or HuffPo.
Carly I don’t really care what they think their after, by speaking by acting, by raising it as an issue they inherently help our cause.
A cause which you have as much to gain from as we do. By asserting state sovereignty and weakening the Federal Government, your local majority in your state will have more flexibility to implement your own view of government’s roll independent of our interference. Everyone wins with more local government.
So to be frank Yes, Pawlenty is trying to further his own ideology, but it doesn’t matter, because if he wins, he wins only in Minnesota, where they agree with him, and you win to the same degree in your state where they are more likely to agree with you.
That’s the nature of his office and the nature of his plea.
Folks, it’s the U.S. Constitution we’re talking about. It doesn’t matter about ideology. The fact is that the Constitution gives each state rights that aren’t given explicitly to the Federal government. It doesn’t matter whether you are on the right, left or anywhere in between, it is the law of the land and should be obeyed by both Federal and state governments.
