Important question! The reality - as long as the federal government wants to keep pushing these things down our throats - eventually, people and their states are going to have to stop funding it. I don't believe we're at that point yet, but it could go that direction in the future.

How do you stop the federal govt. from creating a new form of taxation that would support the remaining states that opted into the federal program ? Say, 10 states did not opt out. As their healthcare program started going bankrupt they would need to raise more money. A few years of taxing those 10 states would soon be unsustainable. I'm guessing they would "reach out" to the rest of the country for the solution. By force or coersion of course.

Every state needs to put an amendment on the ballot in 2010 that would let the people of that state decide whether or not they want to participate in a federally run health care program. Given the opportunity, I suspect the voters in most states would opt out.
