House Republicans promised in their “Pledge to America” that if they gained a majority in the House: ”With common-sense exceptions for seniors, veterans, and our troops, we will roll back government spending to pre-stimulus, pre-bailout levels, saving us at least $100 billion in the first year alone and putting us on a path to begin paying down the debt, balancing the budget, and ending the spending spree in Washington that threatens our children’s future.”

They failed. Are you surprised? Or did they, as politicians do to get elected, lie? The Pledge says “we will roll back government spending to pre-stimulus, pre-bailout levels.” Not “hope to,” “want to,” or “will try to,” but “will.”

House Republicans are short $20 billion or $773 billion, depending on how you look at it.
