Over the years, the Tenth Amendment Center has absorbed its share of attacks.

Criticism comes from both the left and the right.  Groups spanning the political spectrum from the Heritage Foundation to the Southern Poverty Law Center have fired at TAC with both barrels. We’ve been accused of fear mongering by the right and racism by the left.

You might think these attacks create some angst over here at the Tenth Amendment Center.

Nope.

As they say, “if you aren’t taking flack, you aren’t over the target.” The fact that so many folks feel the need to challenge us and our message lets us know we’re doing our job.

And doing it well!

By far, the most prominent attack to date came from Rachel Maddow on MSNBC. In April 2011, she put together a 14 minute segment called Confederates in the Attic. The piece prominently featured the Tenth Amendment Center, and put Maddow’s historical ignorance on full display. In her attempt to paint the Tenther movement as racist, she went to great lengths to link nullification and slavery. completely ignoring the fact abolitionists used the principles to battle the Fugitive Slave Acts.

Not only did the show build us a great platform to proclaim the truth about nullification specifically and the Tenther movement in general, it indicates that our message is indeed getting out into the mainstream discussion!

Thanks Rach!
