As much as the federal government is rightfully criticized on this website, it is time to give credit where credit is due. They truly understand that persistence is key. No matter how hairbrained, laughable, or destructive their schemes may be, they always keep trying to push them down our throats. As a general rule, this persistence pays off. To see how, one only needs to consider Pres. Obama’s announcement that American airpower will now be directed at Syria.
The feds have been trying to get us into a war in Syria for over a year now. Last year, Obama and other warmongers were desperately trying to convince the public that the Assad regime was a huge threat. Assad was supposed to be the next Hitler who needed to be disposed in the name of democracy. The feds followed their same tried-and-true tactic of scaring the public into acceptance of a war, but it didn’t quite work out for them in the way it usually does.
The public rightfully rejected the federal propaganda, as war fatigue had set in after the fiascos in Afghanistan and Iraq. This was a remarkable and unprecedented development, at least in the post-9/11 age. Many advocates of a sane, rational foreign policy thought this could be the turning point, but the feds had other plans. They refused to give up on their push for another costly, unnecessary foreign boondoggle and simply went back to the drawing board.
This year, the Syrian war push began anew but the roles were completely reversed. The ISIS forces, who are enemies of Assad, are now the big threat that must be stopped. Before, they were the ‘lesser of the two evils’ that the feds wanted to assist in the region against the Hitler of the Month, Assad. Suddenly, they’re an existential threat that desperately needs to be put out of commission. As the images of ISIS brutality are plastered all over the mainstream media, Americans once again are succumbing to the war fervor.
According to the opinion polls, the feds once again have snookered the public into believing that more bombs need to be dropped in the Middle East. As incomprehensible as it may seem, federal shamelessness has paid off yet again. No matter what, the feds refuse to stop marching toward a reckless interventionist foreign policy. When it causes terrible damage, it’s an excuse to start another war.
And as Obama made clear, war in Syria is beginning.
But sadly, it is not just foreign affairs that we see the feds rehashing failed canards, we can see it happening for health care as well.
During the 1990s, we were presented the usual false dichotomy over the health care situation. The Republicans and the Democrats both wanted big government ‘solutions’ to this supposed problem. Obamacare was originally a Republican piece of legislation created by the Heritage Foundation and pushed by ‘conservatives’ such as Newt Gingrich. It was a ‘moderate’ proposal against the Clinton push for socialized care. The public wasn’t buying it at the time, and both policies were eventually rejected.
However, nearly two decades and countless crises later, this health care battle was forgotten by the public. This allowed for it to be re-packaged by the new ‘Hope and Change’ President and rammed through Congress successfully. Now because of the feds’ persistence and the lack of vigilance from the public, our health care system is worse off than ever before.
The feds are always lurking in the shadows, waiting for the public to lose sight of what is important so they can pounce, and take another gigantic power grab for themselves at our expense.
The key point to be taken from this is that those who love power never lose sight of what is important to them, and they are very patient.
Just because they suffer a loss doesn’t mean they won’t come back with similar unconstitutional proposal at a later date. And they won’t be afraid to create or exploit a crisis to get their way, as Chicago Mayor Rahm Emmanuel once infamously admitted.
This mantra isn’t just used on healthcare or foreign wars. It is also the federal M.O. on environmental policy, energy policy, monetary policy and pretty much everything else. They are working relentlessly to exploit you, take your freedoms and drain your pocketbook. They will never be daunted, and will always push for freedom-destroying big government ‘solutions’ regardless of how absurd and unpopular they may be.
These are dangerous times we have entered. With the public’s attention span at an all-time record low, there is always a chance that the feds can get away with something either through persistence or by sneaking it through. The public is susceptible to this simply because it is what they have been conditioned to accept over the course of many years.
Being lied to and tread upon for so long has given the public a nasty case of Stockholm Syndrome. That is why the role of the Tenth Amendment Center and like-minded individuals and organizations is so important. We must never rest a second in combating the propaganda and lies from the feds. Because if we don’t do it, nobody else will.
However, there is good news in the midst of this turmoil. We are steadily making gains. Although federal programs keep getting implemented, it is getting much more difficult for them to pull them off. Top-level government agents even admit as much. We are giving them headaches. We are making them expend more resources. We are slowly liberating the public psyche from government control. This is a cause for celebration, but our work has just begun.
After all, Rome wasn’t built in a day. We have to be in it for the long haul to fully break the federal nexus of power. This means taking the lumps and sticking to our guns regardless of a lost battle or two. We cannot allow the feds to break our spirit. We must press forward through thick and thin, and not be the sunshine patriots or summer soldiers that Thomas Paine once warned us about.
Our plan to turn local and state levels of government bulwarks against, rather than an extension of, federal control cannot work without your help. Please join us, and help us to combat Washington D.C’s culture of deceit, corruption and lawlessness before it results in another tragic catastrophe.
