If someone would have traveled back in time, back to November ’08 and told me that Barack Obama would win a Nobel peace prize, my first thought would be “Hey, maybe this anti-war facade of his is legit.” Instead, what we have learned today through Barack’s acceptance speech says more about the Nobel than it says about Obama. What strange times we live in, when the president of a country that spends more money on killing than the rest of the world combined, is awarded a prize for peace?
Anyone who recoiled from George W. Bush’s policies of violence should be equally repulsed by Obama’s recent moves to escalate war. As one woman tweeted this morning “Support your president, traitors!”. I wonder if she realizes that Obama has continued many of the same dark policies that she may have criticized ‘W’ for.
What we can really learn from today’s events in Norway have nothing to do with Obama. The most telling facts that emerge from this bizarre Nobel circus are those revealing the conditioning of average folks by the establishment. Mohandas Gandhi, a leader who nearly gave his own life in an attempt to quell bloodshed, never received the Nobel award while Henry Kissinger, once quoted as saying “If you want to kill, do it fast.” is a Nobel winner.
Barack, in his acceptance speech today made the claim that “A nonviolent movement could not have halted Hitler’s armies.”, whereas Ghandi, passed over by the Nobel institute, stopped the full force of the British Empire with nothing but peaceful resistance.
“War is peace.” Sounds like something from a book I read once. You remember the one, where an entire society gives up their liberty and freedom, coaxed by a central government promising protection and comfort?
Reject the Nobel and these latest attempts by the establishment to con you into believing that up is down and black is white. Furthermore, if you rejected Bush for violating your anti-war position, perhaps it’s time to reject Obama too.
