A bill has been introduced to the Maine State House that would protect property rights from Agenda 21 and other similar measures.
LD161, introduced by State Reps. Ricky Long (R-Sherman), Dale Crafts (R-Lisbon), Larry Dunphy (R-Embden), Beth O’Connor (R-Berwick), Stephen Stanley (D-Medway), Jeffrey Timberlake (R-Turner), and Michael Timmons (R-Cumberland) along with State Sen. Eric Brakey (R-Auburn), would prohibit the state, as well as cities and counties, from adopting and developing environmental and developmental policies that infringe or restrict private property rights without due process.
The bill reads, in part:
The State or any political subdivision may not adopt or implement policies that intentionally or recklessly infringe on or restrict private property rights without due process as may be required by policy recommendations originating in or traceable to Agenda 21 or any international law or ancillary plan of action that contravenes the United States Constitution or the Constitution of Maine.
LD161 has yet to be referred to a committee at the present time. If passed, the bill would be a big win for Constitutionalists and liberty-minded folks. Private property rights would be strengthened for Maine residents, while their state’s political process would be protected from pernicious outside influences. Although Agenda 21 is marketed by its planners as benign and sensible, its effect on American sovereignty could be devastating.
AGENDA 21 OVERVIEW
The United States government officially endorsed Agenda 21 in 1992 when President George H. W. Bush signed on to a treaty with 177 other countries at a large U.N. meeting called the ’Earth Summit’ in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. He triumphed this accomplishment as emblematic of a world coming together to maintain a safe, living environment for present and future generations. However, there is more to Agenda 21 than what these world leaders are willing to let on to the general public.
“In a nutshell, the [Agenda 21] plan calls for governments to take control of all land use and not leave any of the decision making in the hands of private property owners,” The Post-Sustainability Institute, a think-tank designed to rally awareness and action regarding Agenda 21, said on its website.
“[Agenda 21] is a whole life plan. It involves the educational system, the energy market, the transportation system, the governmental system, the health care system, food production, and more. The plan is to restrict your choices, limit your funds, narrow your freedoms, and take away your voice.”
