Shuster: Tenth Amendment is a Bunch of Baloney
From NewsBusters.org “MSNBC’s Shuster: Tenth Amendment a ‘Baloney’ Issue That Appeals to Right-wing Fringe” (h/t Bob Greenslade) Clearly Dave is mis-informed. Or, he’s a straight-faced liar. Either way, as far as Constitutional understanding goes, this guy is as clueless – and dangerous – as it gets. Here’s some introductory reading on the subject: Is Obamacare [...]
The ‘tenthers’
When “they” start giving you a name – and especially when they attempt to use it in a derogatory fashion – you know you’re having an effect. So here comes the new one – “The Tenthers.” I recently started seeing a few references to this term in the standard places, Alternet, ThinkProgress, and elsewhere. But [...]
Pawlenty urges Governors to Assert Sovereignty
Minnesota Republican Tim Pawlenty urged fellow governors on Thursday to more frequently assert state sovereignty over the federal government and suggested that the country may increasingly see states suing the federal government. Asked by a caller about the option of asserting the Tenth Amendment as a tactic to reject a successful health care overhaul by [...]
Ron Paul vs Obamacare
Ron Paul: “This is just going to move the bankruptcy of this country rapidly along.”
Sam Adams: Quote of the Day
Always a source of inspiration, here’s a nice reminder from one of the great Sons of Liberty: “If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquillity of servitude than the animating contest of freedom, — go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed [...]
The New Federalism
CNN on the Firearms Freedom Act from Montana. I think Bill Tucker did a solid job with his report. (h/t Gary Marbut, FirearmsFreedomAct.com)
The Left and State-Level Health Care
It seems like people on the “right” aren’t the only ones talking about a state-level health care program. Over at DailyKos, the “left,” there appears to be some flickering of a light bulb turning on. For example, this recent diary entry, “States Rights Public Option Solution.” Here’s an excerpt: Each state’s legislature pass their own [...]
Natural Progression: From 9/12 to the 10th
“The 912ers have a ton of energy built up. They are gathered and motivated and showed the world that, but now what?”
Sovereignty Committee Appointed in TN
As mandated by HJR108 – Tennessee’s Sovereignty Resolution which passed overwhemingly in both Houses and was signed by Gov. Bredesen this year, a 3-member committe has been appointed to study ways to reassert sovereignty for the state. From the Leaf-Chronicle: Rep. Johnson, along with three other state representatives, will serve by appointment of House Speaker [...]
State-Level Health Care
Here’s a pretty good idea from Tom Ryan: It’s not too late for the governors of our states to weigh in on the healthcare debate, is it? I’m surprised they haven’t already. States should develop healthcare models that fit their populations and needs. Leave it up to the People of each state – that’s just [...]
Health Care Nullification in Michigan?
Following the lead of Arizona and Florida, in recent weeks legislators from Louisiana and Georgia announced that they were planning on introducing State Constitutional Amendment resolutions that would allow the people of those states to effectively opt-out of any future national health care plan. And now, Michigan joins them. According to the Detroit Free Press, [...]
The Typical NeoCon Response?
In response to Michael Rozeff’s article on the Obama school address, we had a few angry emailers. Not many. But, Drew’s response here was pretty typical (spelling errors and typos have been preserved): You guys are republican bungholes with no brains.Typical neocon response.Did’nt hear you sqealing when hHabeas Corpus was abolished by Bush.did’nt hear you [...]
Question of the Day: Legitimacy and Obedience
Ok, so it’s actually two questions, but they go hand in hand. From Paul Hein at Strike the Root: 1. If governmental action is NOT in accord with the Constitution, is the government legitimate? 2. If a government is not legitimate, can it command your obedience? My answers? ”No” and “only by force.”
The Real Lesson of Obama’s Address?
What are we supposed to be “learning” from all the controversy about Obama’s presentation to public school students? Well, it’s quite easy, kids and parents. As always, when there’s a real challenge to the imperial presence of the executive branch, the so-called opponents will always defend each other. While left and right may fight [...]

Misunderstanding the Preamble
It seems to me that after years and years of government-run education, people in this country just can’t understand that everything – in some way – in the Constitution, was meant as a way to limit government power. Not the other way around.
A Stately Affair?
Tom Woods, who’s not only a brilliant historian, but a best-selling author on the economic crisis, has a great review of the new booklet by John McManus, Restoring the Rights of the States and the People.
It’s About Time
That’s what people have been saying when I told them I was putting together this blog. So here we are – the “Tenthers” have a little blog. I hope you enjoy it.
