While supportive of this movement, I don't subscribe to the same absolutism attributed to those Bastiat, et al. quotes. What would Bastiat's position be on public taxation to fund a military? Governments are formed to carry out public functions, and money is needed to do that. Therein lies the necessity of taxation. I have no problem with the fact that we socialize certain elements, such as our military, police, firefighters, etc. I can't think of a better way to do it. I, personally, cannot afford my own, personal military, jails, police, prosecutors, firefighters, etc. So, it's nice to have a system whereby everyone chips in together for these important things.
