Over the last decade or so, we’ve worked hard to get states to pass 2nd Amendment Preservation Acts, banning state and local law enforcement from helping the feds enforce federal gun control.
This should be a no-brainer.
But to republicans, it’s dangerous, and they’ve resisted at every turn in every state we’ve seen this kind of bill introduced. The only places we see enthusiastic support are those where the bills being considered do absolutely nothing.
Here’s a quick rundown of the excuses we’ve heard over the years:
2012 – We can’t do that! Supremacy Clause!
2014 – The NRA told me I should oppose this
2017 – We’ve got a 2nd Amendment President, we don’t NEED to do this
2021 – Police say this is going to prevent them from catching dangerous criminals
2022 – Missouri is getting SUED! We should wait to see how that goes first
For more than a decade – often the same people – the message is the same: Your right to keep and bear arms is not important.
