2011: Some Personal Highlights

I wanted to share my personal list of top experiences and milestones from the past 12 months that have me going strong into the new year:

Nullify Now! Los Angeles – This event was possibly the most challenging Nullify Now! event of the entire tour.  The stakes were high- we could not allow anything short of our goal in our home city!  What we somehow pulled off was more festival than meeting, with live music, art on display, panoramic views and the hardest hitting Tom Woods speech of the entire tour.  Nearly 500 came to the event, at least 30% of which were young people.  It was a day I’ll never forget.

Fundraising Call Center – For the first time as an organization, we paid for help to raise money.  Nick Hankoff and Rajani Elek came in an made hundreds of calls to ask for financial support.  To our surprise, most of those calls ended with “thank you for calling me”. Continue Reading →

Top-10 Constitutional Violations of 2011

From a segment on the 28th Episode of Tenther Radio – starts at approximately 40 minutes into the show. Here’s a collection of what we think are the worst constitutional violations of 2011. There are a LOT more, and so many are so bad it was hard to keep them off the list. What do YOU think was missed – or spot on – from this list?

10. TSA - it didn’t start this year, but it never seems to end.
9. The Jobs Bill – even parts of it. Where does DC get the constitutional authority to provide jobs?
8. Federal Threats to Cannabis farming in CA. They don’t give a darn about states’ rights.
7. Raw Milk Raids by the FDA. Armed food police?
6. SOPA - not passed yet, but a big threat.
5. Assassination of American citizens. Executive branch as judge, jury and executioner.
4. EPA Granting itself more power. Agencies can do that?
3. Patriot Act Extension. Has everyone forgotten that Obama was supposed to be anti-Bush?
2. NDAA. Self-explanatory
1. War on Libya. Undeclared executive branch war. The founders were unanimous in opposition to such a thing.

James Madison: “Of all the enemies to public liberty war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxes are the known instruments for bringing the many under the domination of the few.”

The Time Has Come

As we all set our intentions for 2012, I want to leave you with a thought.

One of my many tasks at the Tenth Amendment Center is to spend some time getting to know our prospects- those who have volunteered to take on an organizational role with the Tenth Amendment Center.  Today, the recruit I was talking to said something that stuck with me:

“Well, it seemed clear that it’s time for me to go from reading about what’s happening, to doing something about it.”

As I see it, there are basically three categories of Americans:

The first, are those who go through life, believing everything that the establishment tells them.  This category is shrinking fast. Continue Reading →

Tenther Year in Review

Add to iTunes

Welcome to our special Tenther Radio “Year in Review” episode!  First, Michael Boldin and John Bush reviewed the “Most-Read Articles of 2011″ from the Tenth Amendment Center Website.  And then, John Bush gave us an update on the Nullifcation: The Movie. The documentary will be premiering at the CPAC convention in Washington DC in February.  John listed some of the people in the documentary: Stewart Rhodes, Michael Boldin, Kevin Gutzman, Thomas Woods, and Deborah Medina.  John referred to the guests as, “big leaders and big thinkers in the whole Tenth Amendment push.”

Later, Lesley Swann joined Michael as they reviewed the “Top Ten Unconstitutional Offenses of the Federal Government in 2011!”  Lesley offered some insight on one of those 10 – the yet to be passed Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). Also among the list were: TSA 4th Amendment violations, Federal Threats to Cannabis Farming in California, expanded EPA power, the NDAA and more.

Michael closed the show with a special recap of 2011 for the TAC. He shared some of our successes and challenges over 2011, and what we can expect to see in 2012 from the Tenth Amendment Center and the Tenther Movement in general.

“The Constitution. Every issue, every time. No exceptions and no excuses.”

Everyone from the Tenth Amendment Center and Tenther Radio wishes you a Happy New Year!

Free Kansas

The “revolution in a corn field” that is happening today in Governor Sam Brownback’s Kansas is potentially as important as what happened here in 1776. Because in the last two years the states have learned that they don’t have to do what the federal government tells them to do. They can think for themselves and govern themselves, just as Dorothy promised.

As the Washington Post reports with an excellent article titled “In Kansas, Gov. Sam Brownback puts tea party tenets into action with sharp cuts”: “If you want to know what a Tea Party America might look like, there is no place like Kansas. In the past year, three state agencies have been abolished and 2,050 jobs have been cut. Funding for schools, social services and the arts have been slashed. The new Republican governor rejected a $31.5 million federal grant for a new health-insurance exchange because he opposes President Obama’s health-care law. And that’s just the small stuff.” Continue Reading →

Baby Boomers: From Selfish to Selfless

A society grows great when old men plant trees in whose shade they know they shall never sit. -Greek proverb

One thing that’s certain about this movement to save the republic from our own centralized state, is that the fruits of our labor are far, far off.  You cannot reverse decades of centralization in one election cycle or even a dozen- the things we are all working towards are likely to only be fully enjoyed by those future generations- our children and grandchildren.

In that respect, I find it greatly encouraging that there are so many patriots out there who conduct their activism accepting the likelihood that they will not experience true liberty in their lifetime.  These defenders of the Constitution push on nonetheless, and do their best to attract youthful comrades who’s future is what’s at stake.

It is easy enough to dismiss those who are older- who’s generation largely turned away from what the founders so carefully designed.  What is more difficult, is to grasp the unspoken truth contained in that Greek Proverb.  It would be wise, perceptive and indicative of progress for young people to appreciate these elder patriots for the true selflessness of their dedication.

To all of the younger generations reading this: the next time you see an older activist at a meeting, event or rally, thank them.  It’s not their lifetime that is at stake anymore- it’s YOURS.

The Constitution and the Founders

The vision of our founders that was captured in the document we call the constitution is nothing short of a miracle. As we look at the political environment today, it is clear how truly brilliant our founders actually were. The Constitution was created to limit the government from controlling the lives of the governed. For the first time in history the people were put in charge of the government instead of government bureaucrats controlling the people.

You would never know we had a Constitution if you were dropped in this country from another planet. If you were a Founder who had risen from the grave this country’s operations would be an obvious indication the country had somehow been take over by a coup d etat. The obvious questions our Founders would have:

Who allowed the Federal Government to break the law of the constitution? This would have to be answered with We the People. We the people have ignored our duty to hold our politicians accountable to the law of the land. We are also responsible for electing politicians that have failed to abide by the Constitution.
